What are Pilot Fish?

Pilot Fish are a type of Jackfish which form symbiotically mutual relationships with a host so that both enjoy numerous benefits as they swim onward together. The pilot fish bond with animals like sharks, rays, whales, turtles, and sometimes ships; working in tandem to ensure their host is free from parasites or harmful wastage. Pilot fish are well known to even swim into the jaws of their shark hosts, knowing that the shark values their help more than their meat for a meal! Eventually their relationship strengthens and grows so that the pilot fish learn to precede their host and swim lock-step into whatever endeavors come next. It was seafaring people who named these fish when they noticed these fish forming shoals ahead of their ships, as if piloting them safely from port to port.
